Purin at the Museum

March 8, the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center held the event dedicated to Purim.

Purim is famous for its carnival and playful atmosphere, therefore, the Museum was turned into the unique theatrical space bringing the history, illusion and invention together. The broad-scale celebration of Purim, the merriest Jewish holiday, united thousands of people at the Museum. The guests who came in costumes got “hamantaschen” and participated in the Instagram-contest competing for the best look. Those who didn’t have time to get prepared were turned into Oriental sheiks and Persian princesses by professional stylists and make-up specialists there and then.

Purimshpil, a live installation, was created in the hall of the Museum. Vita Adlerberg, a director-producer, restored the principal plot of the holiday – Hester’s feast. The main heroes of the Purim story – Ahasuerus (the Persian king), Hester (Ahasuerus’s wife and queen), Aman (the king’s advisor) and Mordechai (Hester's uncle), told the story of Purim on behalf of the participants of the event which happened two thousands years ago.

Open Stage Theatre team created a special happening-photo-stand-in dedicated to Hester’s Feast. Everyone had a possibility to become a hero of the historic event and part of a picturesque image in the midst of the living statues.
