The annual gala night of the endowment fund of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center was carried out at the Bolshoi Theatre. It was the third event and its aim was to raise money to provide the framework for long-term development and future extension of the exposition of the Museum and Center created to promote the idea of tolerance and prevention of xenophobia in the society.
The friends and partners of the Museum were shown the ballet The Lady of the Camellias, the outstanding modern performance by John Neumeier. The gala night was emceed by Kseniya Rappoport, the People’s artist of Russia, film and theatre actress. Victor Vekselberg, the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center Board of trustees’ chairman and the co-founder of the endowment fund, greeted the guests: “Last Sunday, on the 13th of November, the Museum had its birthday. Over the past four years the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center became the leading cultural and educational organization of the country with the massive exhibition and education program which attracts people of different ages. The UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence which the Jewish Museum Tolerance Center won on the 16th of November has become the sign of recognition of our activity.”
Len Blavatnik, the co-founder of the endowment fund, also spoke to the audience. He thanked everyone who made their contribution and gave support to the Museum and invited Matthew Bronfman, a special guest, an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, to the stage. Mr. Bronfman specified in his words of welcome: “The creation of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center is a strong and important announcement which should be heard by everyone. It is the announcement about human dignity, justice, equality, human rights, and acceptance of each other.”
The gala night of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center endowment fund was visited by: Alexander Boroda, the Museum founder and Director-General, Berel Lazar, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, the members of the Museum Board of trustees (businessman Roman Abramovich; Dasha Zhuckova, the co-founder of the Garage Museum; Alexander Klyachin, the chairman of the board of directors of AZIMUT Hotels; Vadim Moshkovich, the founder of Rusagro Group and a philanthropist; Regina von Flemming, the MTS Supervisory Council member), Victor Bondarekno, a businessman and collector; Ziyavudin Magomedov, the chairman of the board of directors of Summa Group, Leonid Melamed, the chairman of the board of directors of Team Drive and Sozidanie Fund trustee; Pavel Teplukhin, a financier; Andrea von Knoop, the Honorary President of the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce in the RF, and John Tefft, the USA ambassador to Russia. Famous journalists, people of culture and art, show-business representatives were also among the guests: Pushkina Irina Antonovna, the President of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts; Inna Bazhenova, the owner of the Art Newspaper Russia, the founder of In Artibus Cultural Foundation; Igor Butman, the People’s artist of Russia; Victoria Davydova, the editor in chief of Vogue Russia; Vladimir Matetsky, a composer; Miranda Mirianashvili, a singer; Olga Sviblova, the director of the Multimedia Art Museum; Sofia Trotsenko, the president of the Fund of Support of Contemporary Art Vinzavod; Evelina Khromchenko, a journalist and TV-presenter.
The total amount of money raised during the event is 70 million rubles.
