On the 12th March 2014, the Tolerance Centre hosted a seminar “Managing Effective Volunteer Projects in Institutions of Secondary Vocational Education” for the leaders of the volunteer movement. The seminar had a practically oriented character. Its agenda was structured in accordance with the wishes of the leaders of the volunteer movement themselves.
The seminar agenda:
- The cycle of volunteer management. Planning a programme; attracting and recruiting volunteers; introductions and training; supervision, recognition and support for volunteers, evaluating the effectiveness of a programme.
- The work of a leader of a volunteer movement in conditions of multitasking demands with little time. The division of tasks in the management of a volunteer team.
- The team as the main resources of the volunteer movement. The structure of a volunteering team. Team roles for volunteers. Supporting and rallying a team. Game methods for team building.
- Motivation and systems for encouraging volunteers. Researching and evaluating volunteer motivation. Sharing responsibility according to the motivation structure. Methods and techniques for increasing volunteer motivation.
- Informational, administrative and educational resources for training and supporting a volunteer team.

As a result of the seminar, its participants – representing around 20 Moscow colleges – obtained much in the way of know how and tools to use in successful supervising, encouraging and rallying their volunteer teams, which they will be able to put into action in their subsequent work.
