Short description:
Why is it that one and the same rule for behaviour 'works' with the representatives of some cultures and don't 'work' with those of others?
Why are group interrelations arranged so differently in different cultures? What should be given special attention in interaction with the representatives of different cultures?
During the training sessions, students are acquainted with various types of culture, studying the practice of the basic rules and regularity of communicating with the representatives of different cultures. The session enables the analysis of the culturally specific peculiarities of our own behaviour.
The session includes interactive mini-lectures, creative tasks, interactive self-diagnosis, brainstorming, and exercises in small groups.
Content and basic concepts: The fundamental approaches to the typology of cultures. Edward T. Hall: high- and low-context cultures. Richard Lewis: monoactive, polyactive and reactive cultures. The cultural dimensions of Geert Hofstede. Individualism/collectivism, masculinity/femininity, uncertainty avoidance, and power distance. The concept of synthetic culture.
