Aims of the interactive event:
- Initiation and development of effective leadership among Programme participants,
- Transferal of the experience obtained in the Programme into the immediate lives of the participants as members of a student body.
Duration: 3 hours.
This module constitutes the concluding event for the “5 Steps To Tolerance, Tier 2” Programme.
The event takes place in three stages.
At the first stage, the best leaders from each team will take part in a contest, representing their colleges. The best leaders are determined by a team vote on the “Leader of the Day” held after each module. Adding up all the votes that each team member has given other members, the best leader of each college is determined. The task of the participants in the first stage of the contest is to make a poster presentation, which will practically constitute their self-presentation. The remaining team members will evaluate the leaders' speeches and vote for their favourites.
The fundamental principle behind the voting shall be “we don't vote for our own!” Jury members will ensure strict observance of the voting rule. On the results of the first round, the members of the jury will select the ten best leaders winning the highest numbers of votes.
At the second stage, the selected participants will answer the trainer's questions:
- Why do people follow and stick with you?
- What do you live for?
The onlookers listen attentively to the speakers, and in their teams, as in the first stage, vote for the leaders they like best. The jury adds up the votes and selects five of the strongest participants for the final stage of the contest.
In the third stage, the five remaining candidates are given a list of five social projects – three of which are of critical importance, and two of lesser relevance. Their task is to select the theme they find most interesting and select a team of volunteers for this project from the audience.
The onlookers listen attentively to the leaders and make their own individual choice after the speeches are over, and then going the leader who has selected them for his or her team.
The fundamental rule for voting is followed as in the two previous stages of the contest.
The jury take pains to ensure fairness in voting and evaluate the leaders according to the following criteria:
- Quantity of volunteers recruited
- Relevance of the chosen theme
- Originality of ideas in the speeches
- Quantity of ideas for solution of the task
On the counting of the votes, prizes are awarded to the winners, and certificates given to the ten best leaders.
