.10/31/2024-2/27/2025
Exhibition
This is the first monographic exhibition of Popova’s oeuvre to be held in Moscow in 35 years; it was organized in collaboration with the State Tretyakov Gallery and the cultural project Encyclopedia of the Russian Avant-Garde. The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Irina Pronina (1958–2023), a Tretyakov Gallery curator and researcher of the Russian avant-garde.
Age: 0+
Lyubov Popova is one of the most renowned artists of the Russian avant-garde, who lived a short but eventful life. The best part of her legacy was preserved thanks to art collector George Costakis, who was an ardent admirer of Popova’s oeuvre and gave her an affectionate nickname Lyubochka.
The exhibition is made up of seven rooms, showcasing paintings and drawings by Popova, her teachers, and peers. Displayed separately, documents related to her family, friends, travels, studies, and work offer an immersive look into the artist’s personal life and biography.
The exhibition includes more than 280 paintings and drawings by Popova and her contemporaries (including Pablo Picasso, André Derain, Henri Le Fauconnier, Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Vesnin, Nadezhda Udaltsova, and Varvara Stepanova), fabric designs, biographical documents, and photographs, many of which have never been shown publicly before.
