Jewish Berlin
Here comes our twentieth trip to Jewish quaters of Europe: heading to Berlin!
The lecture is held in Zoom. We will send you the invitation link the day of the event.
Modern Times. The New Synagogue and Jewish Life in Berlin
The lecture will focus on Jewish life in Berlin from the 18th century until today, starting with Moses Mendelssohn and the Jewish emancipation, which offered new possibilities for acculturation and assimilation for the Jews in Germany.
For many the advancement from outsider to bourgeoisie became reality in the second half of the 19th century when Berlin developed into a major world cultural center.
The New Synagogue was the center of Jewish life and reflected the tremendous diversity of Judaism in Berlin.
Speaker: Dr. Chana Schütz, Curator and Deputy Director, New Synagogue Berlin - Centrum Judaicum Foundation.
