Call for papers for the 9th International Conference "Jewish Field Studies: Findings, Experiences, and Conceptualization"

We are pleased to announce the 9th International Conference "Jewish Field Studies: Findings, Experiences, and Conceptualization", organized by the Research Center of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center.

At this year’s conference, we will discuss new research in Jewish anthropology, folklore studies, linguistics, sociology, epigraphy and archaeology, as well as the history and culture of Jews in Russia and the USSR, Jewish collections and archives, and related topics. Special attention will be given to issues of historical memory and memorialization.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants will also have the opportunity to present new collections of articles and monographs.

Partners

This year, together with the Faculty of Humanities at the Higher School of Economics (Moscow), we will hold an interdisciplinary section on digital archives and methods of digital humanities research. We invite researchers to discuss how modern technologies are transforming the work with sources and opening up access to previously unknown layers of history and culture.

This year we are also announcing a competition for conference sections: you can suggest your topic for the section and the participants for it (no more than four). For the section organizer travel and accommodation will be covered. The organizer may not make a presentation in this section, but only be a moderator.

Applications will be accepted until September 22, and notifications of acceptance will be sent by October 5. 

Please note: The Organizing Committee will consider covering accommodation and travel expenses.

The conference will take place on November 24–26, 2026, in a hybrid format (offline and online). The working languages are Russian and English (with translation).
