A seminar intended for the leaders of the volunteer movement at institutions of education.
This seminar opens the annual “Volunteers School” Programme, which consists of several interactive cycles. The “Volunteer School” cycle has a practically oriented character and is arranged to take count of the needs of the leaders of the volunteer movement.
For a volunteer team to work effectively, the permanent and regular work of an adult supervisor or manager is absolutely vital. Without such a knowledgeable and competent person beside them, the majority of volunteer teams simply fall apart. This seminar is designed to equip leaders of volunteering organisations with the necessary resources, knowledge and skills to help them build and maintain a volunteer team, as well as organise their volunteering work.
The programme for the leaders' seminar includes:
- The management cycle for volunteers. Programme planning; attracting and recruiting volunteers; introduction and training; supervision, recognition and retaining of volunteers, the evaluation of a programme's effectiveness. The work of a leader in the volunteer movement in hectic conditions with multiple tasks and short time spans. Division of tasks in managing a volunteer team.
- The team as the main resource of the volunteering movement. The structure of a volunteer team. The team roles of volunteers. Support and cohesion of a volunteer team. Game methods for rallying volunteer teams.
- Motivation and encouragement systems for volunteers. Investigating and evaluation of volunteers' motivation levels. Allotting duties according to a structure for motivating volunteers. Methods and techniques for raising the motivation levels of volunteers.
- Informational, administrative and educational resources for training and support of volunteer teams. Sponsorship of the volunteering movement. Seeking out social-partners and sponsorship organisations.
As a result, the participants in the seminar receive the knowledge and tools for successful supervision, encouragement, and teambuilding efforts among volunteers, to help them apply these in their future work.
Target group: leaders of the volunteer movement.
